Rahmi Koc Museum which is situated on the banks of the Golden Horn,on the European side of Istanbul in Haskoy district consists of two historical buildings. The builging which was built during the reign of Sultan III. Ahmet has been purchased by the Koc Family in the year 1991 and restorated. In the year 1994 the underground gallery has been added to the building and the building was opened to the public as a museum. In the year 1996 The Rahmi Koc Foundation purchased the Haskoy shipyard and included it to the museum after having it restored. This second building was put into service in the year 2001. In the Rahmi Koc Museum, important historical objects such as the “TCG Uluc Ali Reis Submarine” which fought against Japan during the World War II and which later was related to the Turkish Naval Forces built in 1944, a steam car, an olive oil plant, rail cars are displayed. In the basement there are marine model works, aircraft models and some mechanical devices; in the first floor several steam machines, locomotives, in the second floor there are devices related to astronomy and communication devices are exhibited. In the garden of the museum there stands the tramcar from the 1950'ies, lifeboats, a 1930 built locomotive, anchors and a F104 airplane.
Rahmi Koc Museum
Rahmi Koc Museum displays samples of industrial archeology which survived until the present day. The museum employs facilities such as training package for students and a vehicle called “muzebus” used for promoting the museum. Rahmi Koc Museum which is one of the most modern museums in Turkey is open to public from 10.00 to 17.00 daily except Mondays.
